One of the most sought after trophies of the year-end special season of racing has been being declared the champion of the Oktoberfest Race Weekend at the LaCrosse Speedway. The list of champions is a who’s who of racing legends from the past, the current asphalt gladiators and the young lions on the rise. Equally sought after since 2007 has been the Dick Trickle 99 race, the only race that has been given the White Knight’s personal stamp of approval. Some drivers not only have an Oktoberfest title but also a Dick Trickle 99 trophy in their showcases at home. Tonight another of Wisconsin’s elite racers joined an impressive list of winners of both races. Andrew Morrissey dominated the first segment and got to the front halfway through the final segment to add a Dick Trickle 99 cheese trophy to his man cave of racing trophies.
The 18th running of the Dick Trickle 99 proved to be very competitive once again as drivers from all the country looked to claim a much sought after trophy. Andrew Morrissey (DeForest, WI) started on the pole and dominated the first segment of the race. Tristan Swanson (Elko New Market, MN) surged past Billy Mohn (Elko New Market, MN) to the lead at the start to segment two of the Dick Trickle 99 and also put in an equally dominant performance to win segment two. Braison Bennett (Larsen, WI) shot past Justin Mondeik (Gleason, WI) to lead the final segment of the Dick Trickle 99. Contact with another car resulted in suspension damage for Bryan Syer-Keske (Lakeville, MN) that ended his hopes for a Dick Trickle 99 title after only two laps. As Bennett began to pull away from the field on the restart, the contenders for the overall victory were struggling to make their way forward through the field. Morrissey was the first of those drivers to break out of the pack and found himself moving up to third by lap 10. Michael Hinde (Hernando, FL) was looking for some way to get around Bennett for the lead, but Morrissey was quickly catching both drivers halfway through the final segment. Things were getting very tight as that trio found themselves in tight bumper-to-bumper traffic in the fight for the lead. Morrissey dove to the inside and powered by both Hinde and Bennett to take over the top spot with 11 laps left to run. Bennett would have his hands full holding off Levon VanderGeest (Merrill, WI) in the fight over third as he laps counted down. VanderGeest began to peek underneath Bennett but could get that opening to take over the number three position. Morrissey was dominant in winning the final segment and joined the list of prestigious overall winners of the Dick Trickle 99.
The third Oktoberfest 20 lap feature for the LaCrosse NASCAR Late Models saw NIck Clements (West Salem, WI) power to the lead from his pole position. Bryan Wrolstad (Faribault, MN) also found a way under Steve Anderson to move into second entering turn one on lap two. Wrolstad began to quickly catch up to Clements and began peeking low and high to find some way past the blue 8 machine. Behind all of that, Skylar Holahausen was making quick work of the field as he cracked the top five on lap seven. Not letting Holzhausen out of his sights was his title rival and points leader Jacob Goede, as he stuck right behind. A mechanical issue ahead of the leaders ended Don Turner’s night just after the crossed flags were flown. Nick Barstad was starting to make things very interesting for the lead pair, but Clements slowly drew away from Worlstad. Goede applied a ton of pressure to take fourth away from Holzhausen, but that would not make the two-time champion flinch. Barstad made a late move under Wrolstad for second with two laps to go, but there was not enough time to catch Clements as the veteran scored feature win number two this season. After the race Clements said “It has been a long hard season for our race team, but it was nice to claim an Oktoberfest feature victory.”
The fourth and final 20 lap Kwik Trip LaCrosse NASCAR Late Model feature had a ton of titles hanging in the balance. 30 cars roared to the final green flag of the year with Michael Ostdiek (Lakeville,MN) charging past Mike Carlson (West Salem, WI) to lead the opening laps. Carlson fought back and powered underneath Ostdiek to take over first place on lap four. Jacob Goede (Carver, MN) powered around Bryan Wrolstad (Faribault, MN) to break into the top five a lap later. On lap six Goede continued his march forward by taking fourth place away from Ryan Varner (Mayer, MN). Two laps later the newly crowned NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly champion continued to set a scorching pace as he got around Adam Degenhardt (Coon Valley, WI) for third. Colton Morgan (Mazomanie, WI) spun in turn four just before halfway and got hit hard by Thayrin Rezin (Tomah, WI). Ryan Kamish, Sr. (Farmington, MN) spun to avoid the calamity in turn four but was able to resume the race. Goede was the first to go to the outside on the lane choice, and was shot out of a cannon to lead the race at the halfway mark. Now Carlson was determined to fight back Holzhausen with one of the championships on the line as Goede was leaving the field in his wake. Goede made his final trip to Victory Lane with feature triumph number four, his first LaCrosse points championship and the Festmaster title to go along with his 2025 NASCAR National Title. Skylar Holzhausen took third and locked up the Chase Championship for a second straight year. After the race Goede said “Despite our hiccup in early August this was a season to remember for my team with our first ever LaCrosse championship.”
The 25 lap main event for the Area Sportsmen saw Bobby Turzinski, Jr. (Mauston, WI) nose ahead of Rick Redig-Tackman (Waukesha, WI) on the first lap, but Redig-Tackman got a good run coming through turns three and four to take firm command of the race at the end of lap two. Chris Weber (West Salem, WI) began to pressure Turzinski, Jr. down the back straight before moving under him to claim second on lap three. With Weber having raced many laps here at LaCrosse and got into a very intense side-by-side fight with Redig-Tackman before zooming into first place on lap nine. Contact between Jason Stark (Wisconsin Dells, WI) and Tadd Labuda (Morris, IL) sent them spinning in turn four to bring out the yellow on lap 12. As Weber pulled away from the field on the restart, Kody Hubred (Cambridge, WI) began looking for a way around Redig-Tackman for second. Hubred was getting a better run through the turns, but it was a better run down the straights that was helping out Redig-Tackman. Contact between the two with eight laps to go in turn two sent them up the track and gave Hubred a flat tire. The result of that incident was a new second place battle between Nick Bruley (Johnson Creek, WI) and Dusty Mann (Farmington, MN). Weber held a full straightaway lead as he claimed his first ever Oktoberfest feature triumph.
Now that our final LaCrosse Speedway season champions have been crowned for the 2025 season, we get down to an Oktoberfest Race Weekend tradition of determining some very important points titles during ‘Championship Saturday’ on Saturday, October 4. The Big 8 Late Model Series and the Mid-Am Racing Series wrap up their 2025 seasons and see who will lock up the points crowns for the year. The Midwest Truck Series and the Midwest Dash Series compete in their penultimate races to bring a little more excitement to their championship fights to be settled in a couple weeks. Preliminary events will take place for the ASA Midwest Tour to set their field in stone for Sunday’s big 200 lap main event. Gates open at 2:10, the fight to earn a ‘Faster Than a Speeding Bullet’ award fires up at 2:25 and the ‘on the edge of your seat’ racing will warm you up beginning at 5.
