Rain wipes out Thursday’s events

(West Salem, WI – October 2, 2014) The first night of the 45th Annual Oktoberfest Race Weekend was cancelled due to heavy rain that flooded the infield area. None of the events slated for Thursday night will be rescheduled, leaving those who were leading the three main points divisions – Kwik Trip NASCAR Late Models, Coca-Cola Sportsmen and United Auto Supply Thunderstox – the season champions.

“Moving cars over days does not work with logistics of a very detailed event,” La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway track manager Chuck Deery said.

For Steve Carlson, Greg Scheck and Jason Bolster that means leading the points at the end of the regular season earned them championships.

Carlson was leading Brad Powell by 33 points entering the Late Model Oktoberfest finally. For the past month fans have speculated whether Powell could catch Carlson in a single race, but Carlson can rest easy now knowing he has locked down the 2014 division title, his fourth title since the division was formed in 1990.

Scheck was crowned the Coca-Cola Sportsmen division champion over Steve Bachman, who was trailing Scheck by only six points in the standings.

The 2014 United Auto Supply division champion Jason Bolster was also in a tight battle entering the night. He was leading Jordan Myers by just four points.
Other division champions that were crowned Thursday were Mark Bornitz (ANTS Complete Pest Control Hornets) and Cole Scholze (Coke Zero Outlawz).

Racing continues Friday with the Super Late Models “Dick Trickle 99”, Great Northern Sportsmen and Midwest Trucks. For more information please call the Speedway office at (608) 786-1525 or visit www.lacrossespeedway.com.
